About Stu

I have over 20 years of experience working with family businesses and 20 more years as Corp CFO/Corp Controller in very large public Corporations and also in smaller family businesses.

I earned an MBA from the Wharton School of Business, am a Certified Financial Planner and I teach Personal Finance at Fairfield University. I am also a Body Talk healthcare practitioner applying this breakthrough technology to my clients to support them in achieving breakthroughs in their businesses.

NEW BUSINESS MODEL
The first way I am able to do this is by helping business owners take a critical look at their business model. One of my first clients was a couple who owned a Dry Cleaner business in Stamford. They struggled financially in spite of good sales. The business was barely breaking even, and the owners were living on their modest salary from running the business. Given their prime location and sales, what was wrong?

We worked together for over a year looking at the business. After we considered alternative business models, the owner began to see he could change from his old business model. He could instead buy equipment and hire two people to wash his customers’ shirts in his own store rather than paying outside cleaners to do the work for him.

Making this change saved him $100,000 a year in cash on Sales of $600,000 and raised his profits to $80,000 from zero the prior year. On top of that, the change allowed him to sell his store to a new owner for a high premium price two years later. The couple became wealthy instead of being perpetual work-slaves to a fruitless business.

 


TEAM WORK
I also fulfill my mission because I am teacher at heart. As I mentioned I teach Personal Finance at Fairfield University. In my consulting practice, I don’t just come up with ideas for a client and walk away. I work with the client to also implement the ideas we create together. Together we discover the best way to accomplish this successfully. Sometimes we have to try more than one approach before we hit the right note!

Riviera and I have been working together for the past three years on Options Cleaning. By last year, Riviera successfully increased her sales by over +50%, increased her profits by +450% and achieved her personal financial goals from the business.  

Riviera is my Honor Student! Business success comes - sometimes quickly - sometimes slowly - but it comes when the owner brings vision, willingness, perseverance and faith!  Riviera has all four in full! She is unique and that is why she is a star!!

 


MOVING BEYOND OUR BLOCKS
Finally, I also work with clients who are in high risk new business development roles - real entrepreneurs who shoulder great personal financial risks in their business startups and operations.

These people not only have issues about how to run their business but their emotional balance is also critical to their success in shouldering the financial risks their investors and themselves thrust upon them.

Fear of failure can at times test any of us. For them, their fear of failure over their debt load can become a barrier to their success for these risk takers. I use my training as a Body Talk practitioner to work with these clients to help them re-balance their mind and body so they can move beyond their fear and take the steps to their next milestone - whether their risk be running a business or running a marathon. I help people learn that suffering is optional!
